Node JS

Esokia creates server applications with Node JS !

For the record, in 2009, Ryan Dahl came up with an innovative idea: take the V8 Javascript engine found in the Chrome browser and use it outside this browser. That's how he created the Node JS platform!

A project with NodeJS?

What's Node JS?

By definition, Node JS is a JavaScript development platform integrating an HTTP server. Its operation is based on an event loop which allows it to support high load increases. Characterized as a library of this language, it allows the realization of actions such as creating a file or opening and closing network connections. An important point to note is that it is neither a framework nor a server!

Node JS is characterized as :

  • a free software under the MIT license (license for free and open source software)
  • a non-blocking system
  • a performance of Google's V8 JavaScript engine that is also focused on security.

This open source software platform builds fast and scalable network applications. It must build these applications in real time while the server must be able to give information to the client. It is designed to develop server-side applications while providing a runtime environment and a JavaScript library. It is also very often used to write server-side services called APIs, which stands for Application Programming Interface.

Why should you use Node JS for the development of your site?

JavaScript is one of the most widely used languages in web programming. That's why a large and active community of developers use this platform. Basically, this language was used just for front-end development, the client side. Now, thanks to Node JS, the developer uses it also for the back-end part which is the server side. This is a time saving for you and the developer because there is no need to change language in between.

One of its many advantages is that the software has set up a system containing many open source libraries that can be used with the NPM (short for Node Package Manager). This is the tool that manages the JavaScript programming libraries for Node JS. So you can choose the modules you want for the back-end and also for the front-end.

It is also distinguished as a stable technology by the giants of the web. In addition, it is also widely used by large companies such as Netflix, Linkedin, Paypal or NASA. So you can trust it.

The strong points of Node JS:

  • Flexible and extremely modular:
Containing few functionalities integrated directly into the platform, you decide which modules you want to assign to it to use it.
  • A non-blocking model:
It has the ability to start a task and move on to a new task without having to wait until the first one is completed before moving on to the next one. Also, it will be possible to retrieve the result of a task once it is finished even if another one is in progress.
  • Coding with a single language:
Developing a site by switching from one programming language to another can quickly become unpleasant for developers. The advantage of Node JS is that it allows front-end and back-end development to be done directly in the same language which is JavaScript.
  • Easily configurable:
    - Generate dynamic content on a page
    - Create, open, write and delete files on a server
    - Collecting data from a form
    - Adding, deleting and modifying data in a database
